THE ROLE OF VITAMINS

They act as coenzymes, in other words, they assist the action of enzymes, which have the task of accelerating those chemical reactions that are fundamental for our body. 

Some vitamins also have an antioxidant function and can protect the body from potentially harmful factors for cell structures such as free radicals. 

Other types of vitamins are involved in hormonal regulation, in the growth of bones, hair, and teeth, while others are essential for the proper functioning of the eyes and nervous system.


In addition to having a preponderant role in various physiological processes of our body, vitamins also play a pivotal role in some pathological conditions.

The action of vitamins affects our body at many levels. They participate in:


1) Plastic functionality: Protective antioxidant action against free radicals for skin, eyes, and hair, promoting the absorption of minerals important for the skeleton such as calcium and phosphorus;


2) Preventive function: they participate in the elimination of waste and toxic substances and improve the defensive mechanisms of the immune system;


3) Energy metabolism: they participate in the transformation of sugars, fats, and proteins and the production of energy, are co-factors of enzymes in the chemical reactions of cells;


4) Gene expression: they ensure the vital functions in the tissues and guarantee the normal expression of the genetic heritage.


All of them are of considerable importance for our well-being and our health; vitamins are so-called because they are essential for our life, we cannot in any way give them up.
